Stephanie, I have what you would call a cold list, big(ish) but unresponsive right now and your post really helped me understand the steps I need to take to fix this problem.
Less me me me and more you you you!
The term two way street stuck in my mind, so shall try to remember that in future.

Your are really spot on. This is one issue that is not lost on me - with the focus of building lists, products, netwowrking etc we often forget about the real people that are the recipients of our emails.
I have already cut down my email ad swaps to 3 per week with the intention of taking it down to one per week once my list has passed the 5k mark - then concentrate on looking after my own subs.
I have blogged before that I believe too much ad swapping just dilutes your list as many of your readers will find themselves on too many lists thus ruining the effectiveness of your own list, When I optin in to other marketers lists, all I see are offers from other marketers - there has to be a better way than this.
Clearly adding value to the market place like you do and giving plenty away up front is the best way one can suceed in this business.
Regards
Pete

Its reassuring to read about people who genuinely care about the people they come into contact with. I look forward to your next post.
Thanks Stephanie

I have a rather large list - in fact, I have several lists, segmented based on their interests. My challenge is keeping in touch regularly with my subscribers - I know, I know, I'm a bad boy... - but business and other passions get in the way [such as social media and blogging, for example - though, those who sign up for blog post updates, they do get a "piece of me" several times a week]]
I promise I'll do better, though.
Thanks for the reminder and the tips!

Hi Stephanie, this is a really interesting and useful post, thanks for writing it.

I think that so much attention is placed on building and growing lists, but not enough on nurturing relationships and developing rapport.

I look forward to reading your future posts.
Best wishes, Paul
